that a year ago today, Matt and I drove over to Joshua’s Native Plants to look at some plants (of course), and then on the way home had an argument because . . . well, I don’t remember, entirely. It was something about me wanting all kinds of different shrubs, of a certain, very full form, tight to keep the dogs out, rounded to keep the blowing trash from the street from getting trapped around the trunks, and attractive to birds and butterflies, and he didn’t understand why I had to make everything so complicated.
Of course things got really complicated just a couple of days later. Now we have a mismatched mix of weeds, wildflowers, trees, and yes, shrubs (bought on clearance, and not all native) outside our front door. It all looks a little strange, and while sometimes I feel a little embarrassed to not have a neatly-groomed yard to match my next-door neighbors’, we know it doesn’t much matter, does it?
Have more to say, about all kinds of things. Later.

Is a “proper garden” eternally significant? No. But being curteous to the neighbors is, with or without a neatly groomed yard.

I can’t believe its been a year. What a long strange trip for you it has been. I’m glad you have the wildflowers to stop and smell. Life is a little strange too, its ok if your garden represents that!
