Dear babies,
Tomorrow we’re taking you out to the George Ranch. Rather than doing our usual and picking up breakfast tacos on the way, I thought I could pack you a breakfast with a little extra that you could nibble on during the ride back.
I packed you what you call "porridge." The first time I made it–a blend of millet, polenta, amaranth, crushed flax and pumpkin seeds–you loved it. The second time I made it, just this past week, you refused to eat it beyond your first spoonful, even with my talking like Mama Bear (of The Three Bears fame) the entire lunch. "This porridge is just right!" I would say in my Mama Bear voice, which sounded just like my Julia Child voice.
I think I added too much flax seed the second time, and the flavor dominates. I’ll understand if tomorrow morning you’re little disappointed to see it in your box.
But don’t worry, the mushy stuff will be good tomorrow. I put maple syrup in it. Because the little plastic jug is difficult to pour, I actually put a *lot* of maple syrup in it. Now that it’s done, didn’t think you’d mind.
Bon appetit.
(Also in this Laptop Lunches bento box, yellow plum tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, basil from the garden, crackers, and trail mix. Nothing sweet, you notice.)
